Trainer Bio

At the early age of seven or eight, Trey Pool knew he would train horses. Pool began his show career in all around events. His first job horseback was helping his father and grandfather gather and manage cattle. His first reining horse was "Uno" that his parents purchased from Joe Potucek. Pool's mother would drive him to Ryan Potucek for lessons with his new reining horse. Pool had much success in reining at the state level in Texas 4-H competitions through the years. As a teenager, he learned the basics of calf roping from professional saddle maker Nick Pernokas. At the age of 15, he was breaking and training horses to ride. In college, he enjoyed learning the mechanics of team roping. He enjoyed it so much, he found himself roping more than attending classes. Also during this time, he followed in his father's footsteps and taught 4-H horsemanship clinics for Texas A&M University for two consecutive summers. In 2002, Pool started his professional career working for NRHA professional, Scott McCutcheon. However, he wanted to relocate closer to Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas where a young lady, in whom he had developed a real interest and would later become his wife, was attending college. With this in mind, he took an assistant trainer position with cutting horse trainer, Mark "Blue" Lavender in Brenham, Texas. In 2003, an opportunity arose after meeting Jerry Kimmel while looking at one of his sale horses that Pool knowingly could not afford. Soon after, Pool accepted a resident trainer position at Kimmel Reining Horses owned by Jerry and Carmen Kimmel in Granbury, Texas. Kimmel is the owner of DUN GOTTA GUN and MISTER NICADUAL along with many nice reining and pleasure mares. Pool started many of the two year olds and trained them until they were consigned to a sale or moved to open professional trainers including Tim McQuay, Mike McEntire, Jason Vanlandingham and Rocky Dare. Pool's first futurity horse to show for Kimmel was GUN IN TINSELTOWN (MISS TINSELTOWN X DUN GOTTA GUN) in 2009. The duo made the finals. Following that success, Pool had more successes with Kimmel owned/bred horses including NICASTAR LITE, CHECK THIS DUALLY, and MY DADDY IS DUALLY. Pool worked for Kimmel Reining Horses from 2003-2014. In July 2014, Kimmel wanted to disperse and cut back on numbers. At this time, Trey and his wife, Luci, opened their own business, Pool Performance Horses, LLC working out of Wild Rose Ranch located in Weatherford, Texas and owned by Ryan and Elizabeth Voorhees. Pool Performance Horses offers services in training, showing, sales and lessons. Pool has a group of non professionals that take lessons and that he coaches at the shows. His non professionals are proving to have much success in the show pen. In 2015, Pool was in the Top 30 NRHA Professionals.
